Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. As a young girl, Catherine Ford struggled with an obsessive compulsive disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word association. Ford began to be attracted to acting at the age of teenager and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she wasn't a good fit there. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was able to secure the position on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993 but, by that time she was already making her debut on television in the 1991 season of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". Tate was seen in television programs like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning during the Nineties. Also, she was a regular performer in the theatre, eventually being a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, that were added to her show in the year 1996.
